Owen Wilson is clearly a team player. He first burst on the scene when he and his brothers teamed up with their friend Wes Anderson to make low-budget indie Bottle Rocket in 1996. The three then-unknown Texans garnered much attention for the critically acclaimed (but little-seen) film, and Wilson went on to play parts in mainstream studio films like The Cable Guy and Armageddon. He collaborated with Anderson several times, first on the wry comedy Rushmore, and then on The Royal Tenenbaums, which earned the two an Academy Award nomination for Best Screenplay. Wilson gained mainstream clout for the two action/buddy films he made with Jackie Chan (Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights). But perhaps Wilson's most well-known partner is Ben Stiller; the two have made eight films together, starting with Permanent Midnight in 1998. Their successful lowbrow comedies have included Zoolander, Starsky & Hutch, Meet the Parents and its sequel. In summer 2007, he surprised nearly everyone with an attempted suicide that landed him in an L.A. hospital.
1. He has broken his nose twice.
2. He considers himself more a writer than an actor.
3. Wilson often improvises during filming.
4. He was raised nonreligious but is now a practicing Catholic.
5. He attended the University of Texas at Austin.
On the best lie he's ever told: "That I'm a hopeless romantic? I've used variations on that theme."
